square Media Skills

dunbar bio pic Jim Dunbar and KGO Radio have been virtually synonymous in the Bay Area since he joined the station as Program Director in 1963. In addition to performing on air for 38 years as talk show host, news anchor and commentator, he is recognized as the originator of the News/Talk format, now widely popular throughout broadcasting. Many Bay Area professionals recall driving to work while listening to Jim Dunbar.

Over the course of his career, Jim has interviewed many of the prominent newsmakers of our time – heads of state, political figures, representatives from business, education and entertainment. Jim says there is a symbiotic relationship connecting the media with the professional world – one has a message to tell, the other the responsibility of telling it clearly and impartially. Simply put, developing media skills is helping the messenger tell his story as concisely and effectively as possible.

Jim holds a B.A. degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. He has twice been nominated for Major Market Broadcaster of the Year by the National Association of Broadcasters and was recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. In 1999 he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
